I've been doing the Hour of Code with my classes since its inception four years ago. The Hour of Code is held internationally. Last year students from 180 countries participated. This year the Hour of Code will be held December 7 through December 15, 2015. This is a great way to promote Computer Science. I hope that this one hour exposure to coding may trigger some interest, a career path, at an early age with my Middle School students. Yes, at first they grumble because they have to think, really think and analyze to reach the end. After about ten minutes I see the switch go on and they are engaged. There is excitement as students learn and are successful. It's just an hour. It's worth it. On the day we do our "Hour of Code" I print certificates provided by code.org and give students stickers to wear. If you sign up, you can request posters to promote the Hour of Code. They have been hanging in my computer classroom. Sign up at the Hour of Code and get ready. There is a $10 gift card offering for teachers. Like iTunes, Amazon, or Windows Store? Well, you can add ten dollars with this gift card to your account. But, you have to participate to earn it. |
